The Jewish National Fund of Canada (JNF) – Manitoba/Saskatchewan Region is pleased to announce that world-renowned percussionist Chen Zimbalista will headline this year’s Negev Gala honouring Bonnie & John Buhler on Tuesday, June 5th at the Centennial Concert Hall.
Zimbalista will conduct and perform with the string section of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra (WSO), featuring acclaimed Israeli vocalist Chen Levi.
“We are so pleased that Chen Zimbalista has agreed to perform at this year’s event, stated Negev Gala Co-Chair Karla Berbrayer. Chen is an intense dynamo with charisma to burn and a precise technique that knows no stylistic bounds. He is also a showman who knows how to make an entrance.”
Zimbalista has dazzled audiences around the world with an enchanting array of rhythmic sounds that he cajoles from more than forty instruments, playing with his lightning quick hands, some of them at the same time. His music defies classification and is a true feast for the senses. A winner of several international competitions, his programs are taken from classical, blues, jazz and rock & roll.
Fresh from his performance conducting the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Chen Zimbalista looks forward to the opportunity of directing and performing with twelve outstanding members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, in this wonderful showcase of Israeli & Winnipeg talent.

The Negev Gala has honoured outstanding leaders from within the Winnipeg community since 1953. This gala is the JNF’s most important fundraising event of the year. All proceeds generated are directed to environmental research and development projects in the State of Israel.
